I HEAR YOU CALLING ME! by WILLIAM A. PHELON

First Line: I HEAR YOU CALLING ME--AND I
Last Line: I'LL SAY I HEARD YOU CALLING ME!
Subject(s): CARD GAMES; PLAYING CARDS;

I HEAR you calling me—and I
Wait ere I answer to your call—
I do not shun you, but I fear
Dark woe and sorrow—that is all!
I'd know your voice across the sea—
And so—I hear you calling me!

I hear you calling me—but still
I hesitate in my reply.
My heart beats like a fluttering bird,
I ponder, while my pulse runs high,
I know not what the end will be,
And yet—I hear you calling me!

I hear you calling me—at last
I answer you—I pile the stacks
Upon the table, and I grimly show
Three handsome aces, and a pair of jacks.
You have four kings? Oh, well—so let it be—
I'll say I heard you calling me!
