SQUIRE EBBETS by WILLIAM A. PHELON

First Line: HE GAVE THE GAME ALL THAT HE HAD--THE GAME
Last Line: "WHEN WILL WE SEE ONE LIKE ""THE SQUIRE"" AGAIN?"
Subject(s): BASEBALL; SPORTS;

HE GAVE the game all that he had—the game
Was all his life from boyhood to old age—
His fortunes rose, and sank, and rose again,
As he bulked great upon the baseball stage.
His was a splendid spirit—through the days
He dreamed of great things for the future years,
Of vast pavilions, towering stands, dense-packed,
And ringing with the myriads' thundering cheers.
Prince of good fellows, royal sportsman, who
Was a true "magnate" in the best sense—when
Will we salute another of his type?
When will we see one like "The Squire" again?
