THE MANAGER by WILLIAM A. PHELON

First Line: WHEN ALL GOES WRONG, AND WHEN YOUR DEAR OLD CLUB
Last Line: TO GIVE THE MANAGER YOUR LOUD APPLAUSE?
Subject(s): BASEBALL; LEADERSHIP; SPORTS;

WHEN all goes wrong, and when your dear old club
Is getting belted all around the map,
It's then you hand the manager a rap,
And classify him as an awful dub.
The pitchers may be flopping—the defense
May be as feeble as a Chinese child,
But still the fans, with raving accents wild,
Will swear the manager should flee—get hence!
And then the club recovers—plays great ball,
Puts on an A-1, brilliant baseball show,
Deals the proud leaders many a knockout blow—
And looks like one good betting choice for fall—
Then, people, don't you really think you've cause
To give the manager your loud applause?
