IMPRESSION: 2 by AUSTIN PHILIPS

First Line: DOMESTIC TYRANT. DOMINATING ALL
Last Line: "BLUFFED TO THE END—INSCRIBED ""INVICTUS"" ON HIS GRAVE!"
Subject(s): NAPOLEON I (1769-1821); TYRANNY & TYRANTS;

DOMESTIC tyrant. Dominating all
Who dared stand up to him. Conventional.
Clever. But shallow. Certainly a snob.
Vain of his minor Civil Servant's job.
Bursting with fierce and anxious energy.
Impulsive. Slender-visioned. Swift to see
A scheme's inception and its end—though he
Was, in his want of depth, without regard
For that scheme's middle ... dubious and hard.
Himself neurotic, it was his to rear
His luckless children in Unrest and Fear.
Am'rous of the Effect and not the Thing,
Small wonder was it that this man should bring
Misfortune, misdirection to all
His family: on which was doomed to fall
The Nemesis of foolish deeds he did. ...
And which, throughout the years, could never rid
Itself of troubles which he brought on it
Through lack of patience and default of wit.
Beaten, each day, by want of self-control,
He lived for eighty years ere Death took toll. ...
His victims, and the wife who was his slave—
Bluffed to the end—inscribed @3"Invictus"@1 on his grave!
