AUTUMN FANTASY by JEAN PRITCHARD

First Line: AUTUMN HAS BESTOWED HER ACCOLADE
Last Line: YOUR WHISPERED SUMMONS COME.
Subject(s): AUTUMN; BLUE RIDGE MOUNTAINS; FANTASY; NATURE; SEASONS; FALL;

Autumn has bestowed her accolade
Upon the Blue Ridge Mountains.
Over knoll and vale rare Persian carpets spread;
In lonely glades exquisite Moslem prayer-rugs sun;
Pool and tarn and runlet are magic crystals
Which dazzling mirage give
Of stately, arboreal mosques
On far, magenta hills,
While slender, swaying minarets,
Leaf-lacquered in scarlet and umber, in damask and gold,
Orient themselves in a alien sky
Wherein both star and crescent
Their measured pathways keep.

Autumn has bestowed her accolade
Upon the Blue Ridge Mountains.
Splendid, hoary muezzins!
Unto eager, listening hearts
Your whispered summons come.
