THE POOL by CALE YOUNG RICE

First Line: WHAT HAS FALLEN INTO MY HEART
Last Line: THROUGH NIGHT'S BARS.'
Subject(s): HEARTS; LAKES; NIGHT; STARS; POOLS; PONDS; BEDTIME;

'What has fallen into my heart?'
Said the pool.
(It was the sky.)
'Blue it is, and very cool,
Blue and brave and beautiful;
And never a ripple waving from it
Makes me sigh.'

'What has fallen into my heart?'
Came again.
(It was the stars.)
'Purple followed the blue, and then
Softly -- though I knew not when --
Twinklings of gold, dropping silently
Through night's bars.'
