A HAT TRIMMED BY A MADWOMAN by RUTH MASON RICE

First Line: I SAW SHE'D TRIMMED THE STRAW HAT WITH AVID CARE
Last Line: NOT KNOWING SHE HAD SEWED HER MADNESS THERE.
Subject(s): HATS; INSANITY; MADNESS; MENTAL ILLNESS;

I saw she'd trimmed the straw hat with avid care;
And either side the brim she'd set a pair
Of raucous roses, red and bottle-green;
And sold it for a farthing at a Fair;
Not knowing she had sewed her madness there.
