I SENT MY TRUE LOVE by LEXIE DEAN ROBERTSON

First Line: I SENT MY TRUE LOVE ON HIS WAY
Last Line: THROUGH LONG AND EMPTY YEARS.
Subject(s): ABSENCE; HEARTS; LOVE - LOSS OF; SOLITUDE; SEPARATION; ISOLATION; LONELINESS;

I sent my true love on his way
Without one backward look,
But now my heart goes wandering
Along the road he took.

And I remember little things
I had not known before—
A smile as quick as lifted wings,
The gay silk scarf he wore.

Such simple things to haunt me so
Through mists of lonely tears,
Yet I shall seek for them I know
Through long and empty years.
