I'D HAVE LOVED YOU AS YOU DESERVED HAD WE BEEN FROGS by JOHN RODKER

First Line: WHERE DID I HEAR OF TWO SMOOTH FROGS
Last Line: AH, WEREN'T WE ONCE FRIENDS?'

Where did I hear of two smooth frogs
clasped among rushes
in love and death:
rigid and with spread fingers.

And we men
all brain, all heart, hot blood;
turn lightly, then
'Ah, weren't we once friends?'
