JOSEPHINE'S HAT by RAY CLARKE ROSE

First Line: WHAT A GAY ARRAY OF HATS!
Last Line: SUCH A FLOWER!
Subject(s): COURTS & COURTIERS; DESIRE; HATS; WOMEN;

What a gay array of hats!
Some are mysteries, but that's
Josephine's!
I'm certain, by the crown—
Not a smarter one in town—
It 's a queen's!

Yet it only gives a trace
Of the grace and charm of face
Which it shades,
For our Josephine is sweet
As the rarest bloom you 'll meet,
Ere it fades.

Underneath the hat she knows
She 's as winsome as a rose
In a bower
Where the sun and shade coquet—
Oh! how I would love to get
Such a flower!
