RED OLEANDERS by LYNN RUSSELL

First Line: I WANDERED DOWN A QUIET, SANDY LANE
Last Line: HAD SHARED WITH ME A JOYOUS EPISODE.
Subject(s): OLEANDERS;

I wandered down a quiet, sandy lane
As lazy shadows crept across the plain,
And while I strolled beneath the Autumn skies
I reached a place which brought me glad surprise.
Before my eyes I saw a winsome band
Of blushing maidens rising from the sand
And casting modest glances all around
As Gulf winds kissed their lips, then danced and clowned.
My heart sang praise because a friendly earth
Had given me a glimpse of Autumn's mirth
And blood-red oleanders by the road
Had shared with me a joyous episode.
