FENCES by BEULAH WINDLE SCALLIN

First Line: SHALL I FAST HEDGE MYSELF WITHIN
Last Line: MUST SURELY FREEZE.
Subject(s): FRIENDSHIP - FALSE FRIENDS; LOVE; RELATIONSHIPS; FAIR WEATHER FRIENDS;

Shall I fast hedge myself within
A tiny plot
And think to fend from troublous tares
The sacred spot?

Chill fences do not bar
Soul enemies,
And friendship shunted from Love's fire
Must surely freeze.
