IDOLS OF THE MARKET-PLACE by BEULAH WINDLE SCALLIN

First Line: THE PURE IDEAL LIVES, THOUGH VISION FAIL
Last Line: THE GILDED IDOLS OF THE MARKET-PLACE.
Subject(s): ART & ARTISTS; MARKETS; SUPERMARKETS;

The pure ideal lives, though vision fail
To comprehend and body forth the tale.
The craftsman is not doomed whose lofty plan
Is mocked by blemished work of artisan.

The pattern is divine, though evidence
Of grave short-coming shame the bold pretence
Of builder. Not till selfishness and greed
Are rendered impotent and cease to breed
Chicanery and schemes, shall truth efface
The gilded idols of the market-place.
