RESURRECTION by BEULAH WINDLE SCALLIN

First Line: WHEN SONGSTERS WERE CAROLLING MATINS BETIMES
Last Line: OF THE SPRING.
Subject(s): MIRACLES; NATURE; SEASONS; SPRING; WINTER;

When songsters were carolling matins betimes,
And the South-wind came whispering hope and cheer
To the naked trees and shivering shrubs
And to plump little seeds fain bursting to grow,
I walked in my garden exploring, expectant,—
In quest of the ever-eternal green;
And Lo! I found the lush earth palpitant
In Life's recurring miracle;
From transitory death and murkiness
Of lingering Winter's frost-bound nether-world
Had come once more the glorious resurrection
Of the spring.
