The burry housing of the fruit Is not its essence. For 'neath the rough-spun outer shield And stonelike sheltering, wise The kernel lies. Through seasons' change, in preparation, Protected well from harmful contacts bold, The secret lies. No confidence of creatures Well guarded, deep within its cell. And then this modest little kernel On journey goes Quite near its mother earth's repose. And changing moons and Shifting tides, its life fruit bears. With me, enjoy this simile Of souls encased Who soar, like kernels planted deep, To greater majesty and longer years, Leaving their burry shells for higher tiers. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...CAMPUS SONNET: RETURN - 1917 by STEPHEN VINCENT BENET AFTER THE PAPAGO by JAMES GALVIN ILLUSIONS by GEORGIA DOUGLAS JOHNSON YOUR WORLD by GEORGIA DOUGLAS JOHNSON MARTHA WASHINGTON by SIDNEY LANIER SONG BY THE WINDOW BEFORE BED by KATHERINE MANSFIELD |
