IN THE GARDEN by EMMA THOMAS SCOVILLE

First Line: DAWN BROUGHT THE FLUSH OF A ROSE COLORED DAY
Last Line: STAR GLEAM AND LOVE IN THE GARDEN TONIGHT.
Subject(s): FLOWERS; GARDENS & GARDENING; LOVE;

Dawn brought the flush of a rose colored day,
Fast beat my heart with its heralding glow,
Beauty disclosing,
Love interposing—
Blithely I ventured the promising way.

Noontide had given me treasures untold,
Eager, sun-dazzled I reached out for more;
Reckless with living,
Blind in my giving,
Lavishly squandering more than my gold.

Shadows and silence—enchanting twilight;
Mystical overtones—infinite peace.
Golden cloud plumes,
Sifting soft blooms ...
Star gleam and Love in the garden tonight.
