QUIEN SABE? by MINA SHAFER

First Line: A MEXICAN COUPLE / OBLIVIOUS OF THE ... CROWD
Last Line: FOR WIFE BEATING.
Subject(s): MARRIAGE; WEDDINGS; HUSBANDS; WIVES;

A Mexican couple
Oblivious of the staring crowd,
Climbing the old Court House steps;
The bride in a billowing white veil
And the proverbial orange blossoms.

Across the street stands the County Jail,
From which the groom has been released
Under a solemn oath
He would no longer be a bad @3hombre@1.

And in the basement of the Court House,
Conveniently located,
Presides a stern judge,
Who dispenses divorces
For wife beating.
