HIS MODEST APOLOGY FOR KNOCKING OUT NEWSBOY'S TEETH by THOMAS SHERIDAN (1687-1738)

First Line: I MUST CONFESS THAT I WAS SOMEWHAT WARM
Last Line: AND TEETH ARE USELESS WHERE THERE'S NAUGHT TO EAT.
Subject(s): CRITICISM & CRITICS;

I must confess that I was somewhat warm;
I broke his teeth, but where's the mighty harm?
My works, he said, could ne'er afford him meat,
And teeth are useless where there's naught to eat.
