Gurgling spring in sylvan beauty Almost hid away from view; From your own bright sparkling water I will drink a health to you. Beach and oak tree reaching skyward Guard you from the sunlight's heat; And from this overhanging stone Comes a breath of flowers sweet. In your water clear and cold Warbling birds their plumage lave; From your brink o'ergrown with mosses Dainty fern fronds gently wave. Huntmen here have often lingered Drinking of your water clear; And you've often quenched the thirst Of the agile, antlered deer. So here's a health dear sparkling spring Gurgling from the mountain's side, With a wish that in your beauty You will ever here abide. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...BATTLE-CRIES by LOUIS UNTERMEYER A SONG TO MITHRAS by RUDYARD KIPLING THE OLD BRIDGE AT FLORENCE; SONNET by HENRY WADSWORTH LONGFELLOW THE KEARSARGE (1894) by JAMES JEFFREY ROCHE TO WILLIAM LLOYD GARRISON by JOHN GREENLEAF WHITTIER |
