WHERE BEAUTY DWELLS by JOHN MARTIN SMITH

First Line: I WALKED IN A GARDEN OF BEAUTY TODAY
Last Line: FOR YOU ARE MY QUEEN AMONG THE FLOWERS.
Subject(s): FLOWERS; GARDENS & GARDENING; LOVE; ROSES;

I walked in a garden of beauty today.
All nature was working silently
Weaving the mantle that makes life worthwhile—
So there in a rose I found your smile,
Deep down in the crimson hue
Sublime likeness dear of you.
Its petals soft and beauteous hold
Love for you I fondly fold;
Fragrance and the morning dew
Seem to know that I love you;
Singing birds high in a tree—
Your voice entwines the melody.
A gilded butterfly soars and dips
In delicate caverns of cupped tulips.
I seek your lovely hand to hold—
Instead is reached kind marigold.
There will I spend unnumbered hours
For you are my queen among the flowers.
