SPRING-LOVE by VIRGINIA STAIT

First Line: PERHAPS, PERHAPS - I DO NOT DARE
Last Line: THAT EARTH GIVES ALL HER SOIL.
Subject(s): LOVE;

Perhaps, perhaps -- I do not dare
To paint what love might be,
A resurrection in one's land,
Love's answer to love's plea!

The touch of dew on weighted grass,
Bird avalanche in dawn;
The vesper sparrow at his mass,
A drop, a crumb, -- so sworn --

But you, I think you would be glad
When at old doors you beat,
If one remembered you had gone
And knew returning feet.

If one remembered to make wide
The toll gate of life's toil,
And gave largess for human round,
That earth gives all her soil.
