The brilliant red of newer magazines Lay sharp against the mauve of Godey's Book, And fancy costumes bright with tinsel sheens Caught ropes of cobwebs in an unswept nook. You brought the clearing fragrances of spring Through opened panes, swept up the rolls of gray That lined the floor, and saved each lovely thing You found, but threw the useless scraps away.
