WITH YOU by JOHN LAWSON STODDARD

First Line: I WOULD NOT HAVE THEM BACK AGAIN
Last Line: WITH YOU, SWEET HEART, WITH YOU!
Subject(s): COURAGE; LIFE; LOVE; TEARS; VALOR; BRAVERY;

I would not have them back again, --
Those days of long ago;
Their fevered passions, griefs and pains
Are passed, -- 'tis better so;
Yet sometimes, when through rising tears
That distant past I view,
I long to live again those years
With you, dear heart, with you.

Before us countless barriers rose,
But Love still found the way;
We laughed alike at fears and foes,
And Courage won the day;
What dreams we cherished, perils dared,
Yet oh, what bliss we knew!
For joys and sorrows then were shared
With you, dear heart, with you.

Where once we roamed 'mid flowers bright,
The winter sun hangs low;
With faces toward its waning light
We have not far to go;
Ah, what awaits us there? Shall we
This severed life renew?
If so, I pray that it may be
With you, sweet heart, with you!
