A BIRD WILL CALL TO ITS MATE by LUCY PARSONS STODDARD

First Line: TOMORROW AND TOMORROW AND TOMORROW
Last Line: AGAINST THE DARK WALL OF THE FOREST.

Tomorrow and tomorrow and tomorrow,
the sun will rise over a misty hill
and the long shadows
lying across the valley
will shorten until they are but spots
under a white noon.

The shadows will lengthen again
and the sun will go down
behind a purple plain;
night will come down from the mountains
and there will be stillness
and a slow white moon.

From somewhere in the night
a bird will call to its mate
and the answer will swing to its setting
against the dark wall of the forest.
