AWAKEN, SOUND! by GRACE KIESS SWIGGETT

First Line: AWAKEN SOUND! AND LET YOUR MOORINGS SWAY
Last Line: IN HOLY UNISON THAT WILL ASTOUND.
Subject(s): SCIENCE; SONNET (AS LITERARY FORM); SOUND; SCIENTISTS;

Awaken, Sound! and let your moorings sway
In quick vibration; let the air-waves grow,
While drifting into space, with ebb and flow.
A gained momentum renders interplay
With rhythmic motion. Rushing waves obey
The cosmic laws, and only ears can know
Of air concussions made, as fast and slow,
All movements glide in grave and mad relay.

Oh! Laws of Universe, which serve all men,
Preserve accord in all the time to come;
Retune the ears to meet the joys of sound;
Again unfold the cosmic laws, and then,
Let symphonies of ages sing and thrum,
In holy unison that will astound.
