THE BAYOU by EDITH TATUM

First Line: ALL NIGHT I HEAR DEEP WATER FLOWING
Last Line: UNBROKEN, SINCE YOU WENT AWAY.
Subject(s): BAYOUS;

All night I hear deep water flowing,
The bayou as it seeks the sea.
I lean from out my window, watching,
Dreaming its strange mystery.
And ever I hear the muted rippling
Of water that never is the same;
On, on, it surges, going, going
To some far haven without name.
My hours and days and years are passing,
Like this drift-water and as gray.
My life is like the bayou's flowing,
Unbroken, since you went away.
