A LOVE SONG by STEINGRIMUR THORSTEINSSON

First Line: A TOUCH OF THE GOLD OF THY TRESSES
Last Line: ITS JOY FROM A HEAVENLY SOURCE.

A touch of the gold of thy tresses,
A look in the blue of thine eyes --
"And therein," my heart sang triumphant,
"My heaven of happiness lies."

I felt of thy cheeks' burning crimson,
Thy lips meeting mine in a kiss,
And therein my heart gained forever
Its lasting conception of bliss.

And love in our hearts was a captive --
Alas but a moment's respite,
A moment so golden and dazzling --
And then it was changed into night.

At eve when the dewdrops are gleaming,
With rays shed from stars in their course,
I know that the moment reflected
Its joy from a heavenly source.
