ESSENCE by ETHEL ARNOLD TILDEN

First Line: I LOVED YOU - BEAUTIFUL, BIZARRE
Last Line: A SONG -- A STAR.
Subject(s): LOVE;

I loved you -- beautiful, bizarre:
Wide mouth, live red as poppies are;
Hair black as black-splashed hearts of them;
Slim, slender as a poppy stem;
Nor dreamed till you lay -- vivid -- dead,
That always I had loved instead
A song -- a star.
