A CALIFORNIA PILGRIMAGE by AMELIA WOODWARD TRUESDELL

First Line: I QUESTIONED THUS WITH THE SPIRIT
Last Line: "HOW CAN THE THREAD GIVE OUT?"

@3I questioned thus with the spirit:
"O, how can I do this thing?
The pattern is long and hard," I said,
"My thought but a slender string."

"O, faithless child," quoth the spirit,
"Begin but to weave, nor doubt;
While the other end of the skein we hold,
How can the thread give out?"@1
