GRIEVANCE by AMELIA WOODWARD TRUESDELL

First Line: ONE TIME I GRIEVED; I SHIVERED AS IN FRIGHT
Last Line: "NOT IN YOUR WRATH, GOD'S NOBLEST BLESSING SPURN."
Subject(s): GRIEF; LOVE; PASSION; SORROW; SADNESS;

One time I grieved; I shivered as in fright
At cold words spoke by love's usurpéd right.
To me all trembling, spake the faithful Night:
"Why grieve that Love in ardor spake so stern;
The purest flame may in its white heat burn;
Not in your wrath, God's noblest blessing spurn."
