SONG by MARY DUNCAN UPHAM

First Line: IF I HAVE WON, THEN VICTORY IS BITTER
Last Line: SO THOU HAST TRIUMPHED IN DEFEAT.
Subject(s): SUCCESS; VICTORY;

If I have won, then victory is bitter—
My dearest foe!
Though for the victor triumphings were fitter
Than tears of woe—
Behold me weeping at thy feet—
So thou hast triumphed in defeat.
