Like one who walks alone down silent ways, I walk with mute reactions in my heart. Old love returns to haunt me here apart; -- Old words, old gestures, long forgotten days. Around my dream a lingering perfume plays . . . Of scented hair. Recurring memories start Love's incense. From devouring flame they dart Against my searching soul's eternal gaze. I tend a tongueless fire, an inward glow, In caverns dark where life-tides surge and roll. Through crevised walls my dumb emotion prys For utterance. But you will never know The strange and silent turmoil of my soul. I walk alone with glances from your eyes. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...HIGH PLAINS RAG by JAMES GALVIN NEW YEAR'S EVE by DAVID IGNATOW THE BUTCHER SHOP by DAVID IGNATOW NOT OUR GOOD LUCK by ROBINSON JEFFERS FINALITY by GEORGIA DOUGLAS JOHNSON HEGIRA by GEORGIA DOUGLAS JOHNSON GOOD-BYE DOROTHY GAYLE: THE ROAD TO BUFFALO by KAREN SWENSON |
