APRIL NIGHT by MARION MITCHELL WALKER

First Line: DRAW CLOSE THE SHUTTERS...LOWER THE LIGHT
Last Line: MEMORY BREAKS LIKE A SOB THROUGH THE NIGHT.
Subject(s): APRIL;

Draw close the shutters ... lower the light ...
April is fair in the valleys tonight.
She is walking alone, and the hushed countryside
Is white and athrob like the throat of a bride.
Oh springtimes that were, do I hear your wings --
Ghosts of loved hours -- in this silence that sings?

Draw close the shutters. Lost from delight,
Memory breaks like a sob through the night.
