POPPIES by MAY WILLIAMS WARD

First Line: ROSES TO MAKE YOU REMEMBER
Last Line: POPPIES TO MAKE YOU FORGET.
Subject(s): POPPIES;

Roses to make you remember,
Poppies to make you forget.
Roses for daytime delighting.
Cherish them. But when the wet
Spreads on your pillow at midnight,
Then crush the poppies, to gain
From them, as I shall be gaining,
Rest from an unresting pain.
Roses to make you remember
Once we were happy ... and yet
I shall be merciful, sending
Poppies to make you forget.
