BOSTON IN SUMMER, WITH A CONFESSION by JOHN BROOKS WHEELWRIGHT

First Line: NEGLECTED TRANSCRIPTS ON THE STEPS OF
Last Line: AND APRIL DUNG STORMS.
Subject(s): CONFESSIONS; SUMMER; TRAVEL; VACATION; JOURNEYS; TRIPS;

NEGLECTED @3Transcripts@1 on the steps of houses boarded up
and blinking behind diamonds, diamonds, hearts, and quatrefoils.
A fountain playing in the rain always shocks me
(so extravagant!) But then,
I was ever one to suck squeezed grape skins
and pour boiling water over used tea leaves.
Still,
should my summer pass without the glare
of orange paths, tropic palms,
and, in the sweaty night, swan-boats looped with lanterns,
I would flinch before our Siberian winter
and April dung storms.
