I LOVE A WOOD by DOROTHY WHITTINGTON

First Line: I LOVE A WOOD AT EVENTIDE
Last Line: TO HEAVEN'S STAR-LIT DOME!
Subject(s): DESIRE; LIKES AND DISLIKES;

I love a wood at eventide,
I love a starry sky;
I love the loneliness of night—
I love the loon's low cry;—
But most I love my campfire's glow;
Like some cathedral spire
It seems to soothe and satisfy,
Cleansing my desire.

I love a crag at eventide,
I love the fragrant pine;
I love to worship where the stars
Light the lake's deep shrine;
But most I love my campfire's glow
That makes my tent a home,
And sends my dreams on wings of flame
To heaven's star-lit dome!
