A sigh sweeps the tall lush grasses; The night wind calls as it passes; No sound of the bee nor cricket; Faint bird-notes trill in the thicket. And see! On the gray cloud's lining The day in Night's arms reclining. Day dawn, gay dawn Creeping up across the lawn, Lighting up my window pane, Rousing me from sleep, Chasing shapes of night away, Presaging the blaze of day, Greets me out in field and lane Where soft breezes sweep. The hush of the night has been broken; The fiat for light again spoken; And out from soft nebulous veiling My day in full glory comes trailing; Fulfilling the dawn. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...CAMPUS SONNET: RETURN - 1917 by STEPHEN VINCENT BENET THE WORLD AS WILL AND REPRESENTATION' by HAYDEN CARRUTH SPRINGTIDE by GEORGIA DOUGLAS JOHNSON THE AWAKENING by JAMES WELDON JOHNSON HOMAGE TO SEXTUS PROPERTIUS: 2 by EZRA POUND ON THE THREE PHILOSOPHICAL POETS by GEORGE SANTAYANA |
