PALOS, SPAIN, 1492 by ANNETTE WYNNE

First Line: WHAT A STIR IN THE HARBOR!
Last Line: COLUMBUS -- HAD FOUND A WORLD!
Subject(s): COLUMBUS, CHRISTOPHER (1451-1506); EXPLORERS; OCTOBER; EXPLORING; DISCOVERY; DISCOVERERS;

WHAT a stir in the harbor!
What a stir in the street!
What a stowing of cargo
And noisy hurrying feet!

What a stir on the quay steps
As the boats turn out to sea;
Were ever ships half so gallant
As Columbus' little three?

What a waving of kerchiefs;
What a stir in the breast;
What a tumult of feeling
As the ships dropped into the West.

* * * * * * *

What a stir in Palos
When the @3Nina@1 came again;
What a ringing of mad wild bells
What a feting of men!

What a stir in the earth and air
As the mighty truth unfurled,
Three ships and a crew and a great, great soul --
Columbus -- had found a world!
