AD ASTRA: 94 by CHARLES WHITWORTH WYNNE

First Line: EVEN AS IN LATER TIMES IMPERIAL ROME
Last Line: AS TO FORGET HER GREAT AUGUSTAN LINE.
Subject(s): NATIONS; ROME, ITALY;

Even as in later times Imperial Rome,—
Whose virile manhood held the World in fee,—
When luxury had undermined the home,
Gave up her strength to shameless harlotry.
Till the Barbaric sword alone could free
A Nation so debauch'd with lust and wine
As to forget her great Augustan line.
