HAVE WE NOT MET by CHARLES WHITWORTH WYNNE

First Line: HAVE WE NOT MET, AND MUST WE WEEP
Last Line: OUR LOVE SHALL BLOOM BEYOND REGRET.
Subject(s): FAREWELL; LOVE; PASSION; PARTING;

HAVE we not met, and must we weep
Because our paths divide?
Have we not climb'd by crag and steep
Love's summit, side by side?
Our sun, if we had never met,
In passionless content had set.

Have we not met, and can we find
No solace of our pain?
Tho' much in parting were resign'd,
Doth nothing sweet remain?
Thou wouldst not we had never met,
And thou been spared this wild regret?

Have we not met—and loved the more
This Eden-earth of ours?
And shall we not to God restore
This flower of all His flowers?
While in a happier Eden set
Our love shall bloom beyond regret.
