SORROW'S THRONE by CHARLES WHITWORTH WYNNE

First Line: WHY ARE FRIENDS LIKE SUMMER SHOWERS
Last Line: IT BLOOMS BUT TO BEREAVE US!
Subject(s): FRIENDSHIP; LOVE;

WHY are friends like summer showers,
As fresh as they are fleeting?
Why are friends like all sweet flowers
That die within the greeting?

As Summer pales with Time's alloy,
Our fairest hopes deceive us—
And so with Friendship's transient joy,
It blooms but to bereave us!
