THE SKAITH OF GUILLARDUN: 2 by CHARLES WHITWORTH WYNNE

First Line: WHY SHOULD WE BREAK THE CHANCEL OF THE DEAD?
Last Line: OF LOVES AND PASSIONS THAT LONG TIME HAVE SET.
Subject(s): DEATH; LOVE - LOSS OF; MOURNING; PASSION; DEAD, THE; BEREAVEMENT;

Why should we break the chancel of the dead?
Why vex them in their everlasting sleep?
Why idly deem that their bright souls have fled,
Whose lives in ours perpetual vigil keep?
O why are all our wistful fancies fed
With thoughts that they around us watch and weep?—
Upon the air some fragrance lingereth yet
Of loves and passions that long time have set.
