FAR FLIGHT by JESSIE WYNNE

First Line: MY HAND UPON THE WHEEL, I RODE
Last Line: MY HAND STILL ON THE WHEEL! WHEN COMES THE DAWN?
Subject(s): EARTH; EVENING; MEMORY; TIME; WORLD; SUNSET; TWILIGHT;

My hand upon the wheel, I rode
Toward the sunset. Landscapes glowed --
High capes and promontories, limpid seas,
Isles, mountains, bright
Marvels and miracles of light.

My hand still on the wheel, I found
That I had passed the sunset, bound
For the far morn; beyond the mysteries
Of time and space unshadowed faring on,
Old beacons dead, old ways, old landmarks gone.

Night and the grave! Memories of earth and flesh!
My hand still on the wheel! When comes the dawn?
