This is my kingdom, this my small domain; Here, in these corridors, so cool and still I ponder History's glittering page at will And live the world's great happenings again. Some-one has asked me "are you lonely here?" And I have smiled and briefly answered "No" And wished that such unseeing folk would go And leave me to the tasks my heart holds dear. These are my treasures, these old, crumbling books, These crackled parchments yellowed by the years. Once in a great while some-one stops and looks At efforts that have cost men toil and tears.
