VISIONS, by DAVID LEE MAULSBY First Line: Oh, happy land, with castles fair Last Line: Within the veil withdrawn -- in dreams? Subject(s): Dreams; Nightmares | ||||||||
OH, happy land, with castles fair, Where blows a perfumed, fairy air; On sunny waves light vessels glide; A stormless sea, a gentle tide: What nameless light upon it streams, That country where we live -- in dreams. Old friends return in laughing guise, Again we gaze in trusting eyes, Long silent voices echo still, Forgotten scenes our pulses thrill, From out the past the pleasure seems To come, without the pain -- in dreams. Will ever cloudy daylight bring Such heartfelt words of welcoming? Will ever come, in waking hours, Such breezes wafting scents of flowers? Will sober spirit catch the gleams Within the veil withdrawn -- in dreams? | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...VARIATIONS: 14 by CONRAD AIKEN VARIATIONS: 18 by CONRAD AIKEN LIVE IT THROUGH by DAVID IGNATOW A DREAM OF GAMES by JOSEPHINE JACOBSEN THE DREAM OF WAKING by RANDALL JARRELL APOLOGY FOR BAD DREAMS by ROBINSON JEFFERS GIVE YOUR WISH LIGHT by ROBINSON JEFFERS BLIZZARD by WILLIAM CARLOS WILLIAMS |
