SPIRIT, by ALBERT W. MAYER First Line: Within the chamber of my soul Last Line: Of this godlike voice within. Subject(s): Conscience | ||||||||
Within the chamber of my soul With a silence one scarce can hear There is a voice that speaketh The wisdom of sage and seer: 'Tis closer to me, than I am. Closer yea, by far: -- From whence this restless visitant That stirs my soul ajar, That brings to life new beauty And faith that naught can mar. Oh! that my will be silent And that my lips be still, That I may harken to the word Of this Godlike voice within. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...FOUND WANTING by EMILY DICKINSON CONSCIENCE AND REMORSE by PAUL LAURENCE DUNBAR FROM THE REPUBLIC OF CONSCIENCE by SEAMUS HEANEY TO HIS CONSCIENCE by ROBERT HERRICK SONNET: 151 by WILLIAM SHAKESPEARE A COWBOY ALONE WITH HIS CONSCIENCE by JAMES BARTON ADAMS THE COMBAT, BETWEENE CONSCIENCE AND COVETOUSNESSE by RICHARD BARNFIELD TO HIS WORSHIPFULL GOOD FRIEND, MAISTER JOHN STEVENTON by RICHARD BARNFIELD FRAGMENTS INTENDED FOR DEATH'S JEST-BOOK: MURDERER'S HAUNTED COUCH by THOMAS LOVELL BEDDOES IMMORTALITY by ALBERT W.
