PORTRAIT OF A WORLD, by CORAL MORGAN First Line: Loveliness is yours, all gracious things Last Line: To nudge the sun-dial and sip the pool. Subject(s): Art & Artists; Portraits | ||||||||
Loveliness is yours, all gracious things, blue Whistler twilights where gold windows show, delicate green-gold mornings by Corot, mornings by Grieg. And high Beethoven strings the moon with muted magic chords and sings sonatas at your window. And you know Hell from a Dore etching, from Gounod a Satan splendid as a pheasant wing. The white wolf of the snow crosses his paws upon your threshold and the murderous jaws rest quiet on them and his breath is cool. The sun, that like a fiery bull devours the summer earth, pauses among your flowers to nudge the sun-dial and sip the pool. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...AQUATINT FRAMED IN GOLD by AMY LOWELL PORTRAIT OF X (III) by THOMAS LUX PORTRAIT OF THE GREAT WHITE HUNTER FOXHUNTING IN THE ABSENCE OF BIG... by CLARENCE MAJOR PORTRAIT OF A MAN by ALICIA SUSKIN OSTRIKER PORTRAITE DE L'ARTISTE by ALICIA SUSKIN OSTRIKER FAMILY PORTRAIT by KENNETH PATCHEN FEMALE PORTRAIT, 19TH CENTURY by TOMAS TRANSTROMER |
