FREEDOM, by BARBARA BROOKE RAWLINS First Line: From you I have been independent, free Last Line: Which none but time or you can ever free. Subject(s): Love - Loss Of | ||||||||
From you I have been independent, free For months, the winter made its casual end, And June, so hot, has made me apprehend The fall, which I cannot but now foresee In its gay, ancient way come blazoned down Like a last thrust of warmth upon the toes, While wind comes roaring like a yellow hound Shaking the petals from the frightened rose. Then is the time to test this freedom out, To know my wisdom or my fearful lack, To take my careful way across the snows Assured there is no sudden turning back To quench the deep thirst you have left in me, Which none but time or you can ever free. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...ROSE AND MURRAY by CONRAD AIKEN THOUGH WE NO LONGER POSSESS IT by MARK JARMAN THE GLORY OF THE DAY WAS IN HER FACE by JAMES WELDON JOHNSON LOVE COME AND GONE by GEORGIA DOUGLAS JOHNSON CHAMBER MUSIC: 28 by JAMES JOYCE CHAMBER MUSIC: 33 by JAMES JOYCE A SCOTCH SONG by JOANNA BAILLIE RETREAT by BARBARA BROOKE RAWLINS |
