FOR YELLOW VIOLETS, by GLENNYS RIVOLA First Line: How like a very miracle it seems Last Line: Weep for the sterile power that is I! Subject(s): Birth; Flowers; Violets; Child Birth; Midwifery | ||||||||
How like a very miracle it seems That out of this misshapen, barren heap Such small and perfect loveliness should leap To being, like the magic of new dreams. It is as though a giantess should bring From out her ugly bulk and shapeless girth A tiny, perfect, lovely child to birth, For all the world's amaze and wondering. How like a miracle! And yet in face Of all this wonder, all the kindly grace That gives a hillside flowers for its peace, I, sad, rebellious, longing for release, Wandering underneath this quiet sky Weep for the sterile power that is I! | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...WHY I AM AFRAID OF TURNING THE PAGE by CATE MARVIN ACCIDENTS OF BIRTH by WILLIAM MEREDITH ONE FOR ALL NEWBORNS by THYLIAS MOSS CURRICULUM VITAE by LISEL MUELLER FOUND IN THE CABBAGE PATCH by LISEL MUELLER I SHALL REMEMBER by GLENNYS RIVOLA |
