UNDERTONES, by BEULAH WINDLE SCALLIN First Line: Apollo's steeds are hastening to their home Last Line: That greet the night as day her mantle flings. Subject(s): Olympus (mountain), Greece | ||||||||
Apollo's steeds are hastening to their home On far Olympus. See, his chariot-sun In nearing limit of the daily run, This moment wheels behind the edge of night; While in its wake, a dust all luminous Bewilders with enchantment of delight. Harsh notes are muffled and the air is rife With nestling birds and crooning insect-life; With filmy sighs that end the children's day As dreamland fairies spirit them away; With lovers' heart-beats, quickened as they near The trysting-hour. These undertones are dear To those in tune with witching, vibrant things That greet the night as day her mantle flings. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...SACRED GROUND by JOHANN WOLFGANG VON GOETHE OLYMPUS by RICHARD MONCKTON MILNES THE GODS LAUGHED ON HIGH OLYMPUS by LEONORA SPEYER PARTY ON OLYMPUS by JAMES LAUGHLIN A BLACK HILLS IDYL by BEULAH WINDLE SCALLIN A LOVER'S IDLE FEAR by BEULAH WINDLE SCALLIN A MOUNTAIN ROAD by BEULAH WINDLE SCALLIN ARGOSY by BEULAH WINDLE SCALLIN BEAUTY SHIELDS by BEULAH WINDLE SCALLIN |
